Our won Car Of The Year and Bike Of The Year

After the recently announced BS Motoring awards 2008
we had a poll running on the Confused Programmer blog where we asked the readers to vote for the COTY and BOTY. And here are the results:-

BS Motoring awards 2008

BS Motoring awards 2008, the oldest automotive awards in the country were recently declared and following are the winners:-
Hyundai i10 won the Business Standard Motoring Car of the Year 2008 award. It had a stiff competition from Mahindra Renault Logan, Chevrolet Spark, Maruti Suzuki’s SX4, the BMW 3 and 5 Series and the Volkswagen Passat.

Hyundai earlier won the COTY awards for the Santro in 1998 and the Getz in 2005.

The recently launched i10 has set a new bench mark in the small car segment with its build quality, ride, handling, driveability, comfort, safety features, fuel efficiency and yet a very competitive price.

The Bajaj XCD redefined the entry level bike segment in the country. Offering the best of technology and features at an extremely affordable price impressed the juries and won the Bike of the year award for the XCD. The XCD faced competition from TVS Apache RTR160, the Pulsar 200 & Pulsar 220.

Winner in the other categories were as follows:
Chevrolet Spark: Business Standard Motoring Best Value Award 2008.
Mahindra Renault Logan: Business Standard Motoring Jury Award 2008.
BMW 325i: Business Standard Motoring Performance Car of the Year 2008.
Volkswagen Passat: Business Standard Motoring Premium Car of the Year 2008.
TVS Apache RTR 160: Business Standard Motoring Performance Bike of the year 2008.
Kinetic-Sym Flyte: Business Standard Motoring Scooter of the Year 2008.

Volkswagen Passat now in India

Volkswagen, Europe’s largest car maker announced the launch of the brand in India with the unveiling of its first locally assembled Passat Sedan. The very well equipped Passat TDI 2.0 litre Highline will be currently available in two versions in India. These are priced at Rs. 22.35 lakhs and Rs. 24.35 lakhs, respectively (all prices ex-Showroom Delhi incl. VAT).

The powerful 2.0 litre TDI diesel engine with an output of 103 kW (140 bhp) is one of the most successful engines in the Volkswagen range. It is paired with a 6-speed automatic DSG gearbox. Advanced occupant safety is one of the key features of the Passat which comes equipped with 8 airbags which include side airbags for the rear passengers, Anti-Lock Braking System (ABS) and Electronic Stabilisation Programme (ESP). The Passat offers a comfortable driving experience with latest features such as the "Press andDrive" starting function, automatic driving light control with "Coming and Leaving home" function. The “Climatronic" air condition with 2-zone temperature control, leather upholstery, electric and manual sun blinds in the back, 6-disc CD changer, alloy wheels and a rain sensor give the Passat the perfect impression of a real luxury sedan. It is also the first vehicle in this class to have a push-button-operated Electromechanical Parking Brake (EPB).

The top version will come equipped with additional state-of the-art features like front seats with electric 12-way adjustment, bi-xenon headlights with headlight cleaning system, electric sliding / tilting glass roof, parkingsensorsat front and rear, anti-theft warning system and multi-function steering wheel with operating facility for gear-change, multi-function display and radio.
