Limited edition Splendor Plus

Bajaj has tried to redefine the entry level bike segment with its 125cc XCD. This was realy a welcome move, thought that yes may be we have started going in the right direction, started to see a shift from 100 to 125 and from 125 to 150+ , till i read this:-

NEW DELHI: India's largest two-wheeler maker Hero Honda Motors Ltd (HHML) today launched a limited edition variant of its 100 cc motorcycle Splendor Plus priced at Rs 41,250 (ex-showroom Delhi), to commemorate sales of two crore bike units in the country since its inception in 1982.

The company plans to manufacture only 50,000 units of the limited edition variant of Splendor Plus which would sport various added features such as black body colour, silver mono tone stripes, black five spoke alloy wheels, a black engine and matching chain cover.
I guess HH would never let go the 100cc segment. I guess what they want to say is thanks for all the all the support and appriciation that the Indian comuter has shown towards the 100cc for over 2 decades. You like 100cc? Here you go, take some more.

"Brand Splendor holds a special place in the hearts of millions of Indians for over a decade now. Through the launch of this bike, we would like to thank each of our customers and present to them the special edition commemorative Splendor," Hero Honda Managing Director & CEO Pawan Munjal said.

The Hindustan Times claims:-

Hero Honda, the country's largest motorcycle maker, on Monday rolled out a new bike 'Splendor NXG' in the deluxe segment as it seeks to consolidate its market share in India.

The company launched two variants of 'Splendor NXG' with spoke or cast wheels carrying a price tag of Rs 40,990 and Rs 41,990 (ex-showroom Delhi).

So whats it a new Plus or a new NXG? I am not bothered much, but will update tomorrow morning after confirming.

World's Fastest Production Car, Ultimate Aero TT

The American-built SSC Ultimate Aero TT is a supercar built by Shelby Super Cars (SSC) in order to rival the new Bugatti Veyron with speeds of over 250 mph (400 km/h) and a 0-60 mph time of 2.78 seconds (for the Ultimate Aero TT version). The company and vehicle are the brainchilds of Jerod Shelby, who spent over seven years designing the Aero. The car is the world's fastest production car at 256.15 mph (412.233 km/h), a speed reportedly achieved on September 13 2007 in West Richland, WA. The results of this test, verified by Guinness World Records on October 9 2007, gave the SSC Aero the world's fastest production car title.

2008 Kawasaki Ninja 250R

One look at the new Ninja 250R tells everyone that this bike is the genuine article. With a new full-fairing similar to the Ninja ZX-6R and -10R supersport bikes, a single kicked-up muffler, UNI-TRAK® rear suspension, high-performance petal disc brakes and a dual seat, this is the most stylish performer in its category.
The 2008 Kawasaki Ninja 250R is priced at $3,499 and is available in four colors: Lime Green, Ebony, Passion Red, and Candy Plasma Blue.
Unfortunately there are not even any rumors of this babe visiting India anytime soon. Importing it here would cost a Bomb (3 Lakhs approx. including duty and taxes). I wish Bajaj imports the technology from Kawasaki and manufactures the Ninja 250R in India. The Ninja at around 3499$ if available in India would be quite a deal.
Update:-Kawasaki superbikes to available in India

Bajaj XCD selling XCDingly well

In spite of the news of some problems with the XCD, Bajaj Auto Ltd (BAL) on Sunday said it has sold 65,000 units of its 125 cc DTS-Si bike XCD within the first 50 days of its launch.
"As much as half of XCD 125 volumes are coming from competition, a majority of them being 100cc users. XCD 125 is a compelling package that 100cc customers are finding very difficult to resist," BAL General Manager (Marketing) Amit Nandi said.
BAL is also ramping up production of XCD from the present 50,000 units a month to 75,000 units a month by November, the company said in a statement.
The company has been saying that it wants to exit from the 100 cc by offering customers a better product which clubs the features of both 125 cc and 150 cc motorcycles.
XCD 125 is the company's main weapon in exiting the high volume, low-margin 100 cc segment.
Source The Economic Times.

Personally i feel that the XCD is an amazing VFM, looks far more modern and feature rich as compared to its 100cc rivals. The xcd loses to the Yamaha Gladiator , Discover in performance and ride quality but beats then in pricing.

Overall its a package that average Indian commuter would find hard to resist. But definitely not for a young and adventurous Biker.

Follwoing are few figure of the xcd vs Gladiator vs Splendor.

Fuel efficiency XCD vs Gladiator vs Splendor nxg
From the nov issue of Overdrive

Bajaj xcd (highway / city / overall) kmpl
65.3 73.6 71.52

Yam. Gladi (highway / city / overall) kmpl
76.4 68.1 70.2

Splendor (highway / city / overall) kmpl
68.75 73.21 72.08

xcd 9.6ps@7000rpm
gladi 11 ps@ 7500rpm

Note:-
Before you call this bullshit and ask how can xcd return better average in city than on highway, let me clarify. The xcd is most fuel efficient in the range of 40 to 45 (as per the mag) and the fuel efficiency of xcd drops above 60. 90 being the top speed. Now the question is can you ride a bike in any city forget the metros, at a constant speed of 40 ??

Hyundai Pa(i10) will be launched on Nov 1

Earlier post on Hyundai Pa i10 here.

Update :- Hyundai unveils new Hyundai Pa I10
Hyundai Motor India Ltd will launch its compact car i10, code named Pa, in the country on November 1.
The car will be available in 10 colours. It will have a sun roof, the first for a compact car. The i10 is expected to be priced between Rs 3.7 lakh and Rs 3.9 lakh.
India is set to be the global manufacturing hub for the compact car. The Korean auto firm plans to more than double its export volumes from India in the next two years. Hyundai aims to export one lakh units this fiscal and expects to increase this to 2.5 lakh units in the next two years. Hyundai cars comprise about 70 per cent of India’s auto exports.Apart from the Santro, plans are afoot to bring models such as the Getz and the Accent under the export fold as the manufacturing capacity increases. The company’s new plant in Chennai with a capacity of three lakh units is expected to go on stream by October this year. This will take Hyundai’s total capacity to six lakh units. It is also being speculated that a Santro variant may be in the offing. The company had launched the Santro Xing in 2003. Company officials said it had already slashed prices of the Santro. However, industry sources said a variant with fewer features and a price cut of Rs 70,000 or above might be on the cards. Hyundai sells around 18,000 units per month with Santro accounting for 13,000 to 14,000 units.
Source The Telegraph

"Like the compact car 'Pa', which will be launched shortly, we are also developing another model in the D-segment for the Indian market, Besides, we are also working on LPG Santro for launch next year." Hyundai Motor India (HMIL) Managing Director and CEO HS Lheem said.
He said the proposed D-segment car, expected to hit the market in a "couple of years", would be a global model developed and produced in India.
The car is expected to be pitched against the likes of Honda Civic and Toyota Corolla and the segment will witness stiff competition with Maruti Suzuki also planning a product in the same category by 2009.
