Yamaha R1 - we are still waiting!

Still waiting for R1. This is NDTV reporting Yamaha's plans of bringing its super bikes:-


And the television ad that has been going around for about 2 months now. Surprisingly almost none of my friends have seen this ad or were able to get that R1 is coming on Indian roads. Everytime i say Yamaha is getting R1 and MT01 here, there is always some one with a big "whaaaaatttttttt???????".


According to the sources it will cost 11.5 lakhs ex showroom and will be available from nov this year.

Dude at this stage we dont want R1....why graduate from a 100 cc to R1 of 11 Lakhs.Wont a 500-800 cc++ bike with a budget of 2 lakhs be more affordable to us

Actually, we pay 110% tax to import these bikes to india. Its cost in abroad may be 5L.
Y pay a lot as tax, instead wait a few more years, let them manufacture it overhere

Agree R1 @ 5 lakhs is a must have. Expecting Yamaha to manufacture it in india is a distant dream.
But yeah not for suzuki who plans to set up a facility in India and export from here.

To that extent i even hope Bajaj would be able to deliver 500+ cc bikes pretty soon.

But R1 would always be ultimate fantasy.

Importing R1 from singapore as knoked down kit and getting it assembeled here would still attract lesser duty as compared to the CBU should be around 9l.

i hope we get some relaxations in import duties in the next budget.
