Dubbed as “Lord of the Streets”, FZ16 is designed and engineered with the potential for active and even aggressive enjoyment of around-town street riding and styling that brings pride of ownership and makes any rider look like they own the road.

Unveiling FZ 16 during a select media tour for test ride at Goa, CEO and Managing Director, Mr. Tsutomu Mabuchi said, “With the launch of FZ 16, Yamaha is poised to provide Indian bike enthusiasts with both a rough and brutish expression as well as a certain subtlety. This high quality masterpiece will without doubt become a rage for the next generation”.

“Yamaha has always kept up with new technology while constantly bringing it to the next level. The bike gets its looks from the global FZ series known for awesome looks and tremendous power. Its engine packs a mighty punch and the light weight diamond type frame known for its simplicity and excellent rigidity- enables it to cut its way through the curves like a street-fighter. The FZ16 has a Don’t Mess with me attitude & takes attention away from others on the road as it makes its personality felt.

With the Triple Macho concept projecting the Muscular silhouette, Muscular body parts and Muscular chassis, FZ 16 is an object de’art on the street and reflects visual expression of performance. The bike boasts of a 153cc air-cooled, 4-stroke, single-cylinder high torque engine for active & aggressive city riding. The engine is born out of the quest for the ultimate in intake efficiency, combustion efficiency and minimum horsepower loss and its breathtaking pickup. The single-axis balancer reduces vibration for more comfortable riding. A negative pressure type Φ26mm carburetor with TPS (Throttle Position Sensor) contributes to outstanding engine response on the FZ16. The placement of this model’s ‘MidShip Muffler’ is toward the center of the machine to achieve good concentration of mass, exhaust efficiency and handling. While 5-speed transmission provides a smooth operational touch, the gear ratios are set to provide optimum performance and agility in city riding.

A Monocross suspension ensures agile running performance and handling. At the same time it inhibits machine bottoming while riding with a tandem passenger and provides a very comfortable ride. The front suspension is 41 mm thick, besides good absorption of shocks from the road, this suspension also provides good damping characteristics during acceleration and braking.

FZ 16 also has India’s first “140/60-17” size rear radial with a 60% aspect ratio contributes to better grip and handling stability. To achieve sufficient cooling effect, the cylinder head on the FZ16 engine is designed with especially large fins as well as a shroud (air intake cowl) to effectively direct airflow to the engine.

The FZ 16 will be offered in 3 colours namely Lava Red, Midnight Black and Flaming Orange. The bike will be priced at Rs. 65000 ex showroom (All India).

Accent goes dual fuel with CNG

New Delhi, June 9, 2007: Hyundai Motor India, the second largest passenger car manufacturer in India and the largest exporter of automobiles today expanded its range of alternate fuel vehicles by including the Accent in its fold. From today onwards the immensely popular mid size sedan – the Accent will be available in CNG variant as well. Last year HMIL had introduced a CNG variant for its flagship model Santro. The Accent which was initially launched in the Indian market in 1999 and had been the best selling car for a long time will now provide the future owners with a more economical and environment friendly drive. The dual fuel Accent will use Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) as an alternate fuel. The Accent comes with a 1.5 litre petrol engine which without any modification is compatible with CNG.

HMI has tied up with the leading CNG kit supplier CEV of Korea who will supply all the components of the CNG fitment. The kit is not only safe but with an advanced Lambda control system ensures that it meets the Euro III emission norms. To ensure that there are no flaws in the fitment process, HMI has an exclusive arrangement with leading fitment specialist CEV to retro fit the kits on the Accent model.

Initially, the CNG Accent will be launched in Delhi and the NCR areas and all Hyundai dealers in Delhi and NCR, in collaboration, with CEV India are equipped to sell and service the CNG Accent.

The CNG Accent would have a manual selector switch, which would enable the driver to easily switch from gasoline to CNG and vice versa. The on-board CNG cylinder has a capacity of approximately 12kg and the running cost on CNG for the Accent is estimated to be in the region of Rs 1.15 km or even less depending on the driving cycle. This leads to a savings of almost 60 – 70% for the consumer.

Commenting on the introduction of the CNG Accent, H. S Lheem, MD, Hyundai Motor India said “The Accent has been one of our best selling models ever since its launch. Offering it with a CNG kit will only add to its appeal as it will not only be cheaper to run but also eco friendly. The Accent has always been a very strong product in its segment and with the CNG variant our customers would find it a really attractive proposition as it has all one can look for in this class of cars.”

The Accent had recently been approved by DGS&D for use by both the Central and State government departments.

Maruti 800 Duo: Lpg variant Launched

New Delhi, June 5, 2008

Car market leader Maruti Suzuki India Limited set out to delight its customers on World Environment Day by launching the Maruti 800 Duo, a new variant that runs on petrol as well as Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG).

Speaking on the occasion, Mayank Pareek, Executive Officer, Marketing and Sales, Maruti Suzuki said, "Dual fuel vehicles have always formed a prominent part of our overall product strategy. We are happy to launch the Maruti 800 Duo on the World Environment day as it uses LPG, an environment friendly cleaner fuel. Besides, the car is economical to drive and being factory fitted, it is completely safe."

"The success of Maruti Suzuki's dual fuel models like the WagonR and the Omni Cargo is a clear reflection of the customer preference towards products that are safe and light on pocket and at the same time environment friendly. We are sure that the Maruti 800 Duo will find favour with the customers for the greater value for money to her" he added.

Coinciding with this launch, the company announced that it has sold almost 125,000 cars that are powered by LPG and CNG fuels.

Besides the Maruti 800, the company offers Omni and WagonR in dual fuel options (LPG-cum- petrol) As such, Maruti Suzuki is the only manufacturer in the country to offer alternate fuel vehicles across entry level, compact and commercial segments.

Power and Performance

The Maruti 800 Duo works on Gas Mixer System based on Integrated Gas Technology which results in optimum performance and superior emissions. The Maruti 800 Duo delivers a power of 35ps@5000 rpm and torque of 56Nm@2500 rpm. The LPG variant emits 10% lower CO2 than the petrol variant, hence is environment friendly.

Designed in-house by a team of 24 engineers, the Maruti 800 Duo saw active participation of some of the young engineers in the company.

The concept of the project was to make a cost effective LPG variant, which would deliver the performance equivalent to the Injection systems.

The learning's from previous products like Omni LPG (2004) & Wagon R Duo (2006) have been integrated into the Maruti 800 Duo to ensure that optimum power and torque levels are maintained at the same levels as the petrol variant.

Safety

Maruti 800 Duo is manufactured at the company's Gurgaon plant. The components of the Maruti 800 Duo are fitted on-line along side the petrol variant of the car, hence ensuring excellent quality levels. Like the other products in the company's portfolio, the Maruti 800 Duo undergoes all stringent checks as per Maruti Suzuki quality standards before being rolled out from the assembly lines. The factory-fitted Maruti 800 Duo enjoys full warranty benefits, which are available on other car models. Thus, Maruti 800 Duo will provide the customers benefits of lower running cost, without the risk associated with unapproved, after market LPG kits.

The LPG kit in the Maruti 800 Duo is approved by Department of Explosives, tested and certified by Automotive Research Association of India, country's premier automobile testing and certifying authority.

Maruti 800 Duo is available in a range of five colours.

Alternative fuels

Maruti Suzuki pioneered the alternate fuel scenario in the country by introducing Factory fitted models starting from 2001.

These regularly introduced dual fuel variants have found special favour amongst fleet operators and commercial users, for the excellent low running costs and low maintenance cycles.

The LPG variants constitute around 23 per cent of national sales for Wagon R and Omni.

With the launch of Maruti 800 Duo the company would have a greater presence in the alternative fuel cars in the country.

Tata Crossover: Indicruz to hit the roads by year end

Tata Motors is planning to launch a Crossover vehicle, The Indicruz or the Xover as popularly referred to after the concept was first displayed in 2005 at Geneva Motor Show.

Pictures of the TATA Crossover (Xover): Indicruz

The new offering would compete with established products such as the Toyota Innova and General Motors Chevrolet Tavera, and soon to be launched Mahindra Ingenio.

The Crossover (Xover) is a 7-seater and will most likely have the latest 2.2 liter Dicor engine, navigation system, ABS and air bags among and classy interiors along with other things like 17" aloy wheels, mirror mounted indicators. The car will have a global launch around November.

The Crossovers have been in great demand with the taxi companies which ferry callcentre and BPO staff thanks to the outsourcing boom witnessed by the country. Toyota Innova, amongst the most successful Crossovers has sold 132,045 units since its launch in 2005.

Tata Motors has so far had no presence in this segment. The Indicruz or The Crossover should be a success as long as they keep the overall quality, refinement and price under control.

The 2009 10th generation Toyota Corolla in India is headed towards India and will be probabaly be available towards the ends of the year.
The existing 9th generation Corolla was launched in 2003 and has now started loosing it out to the market leader Civic and the Skoda. The over all design looks fresh and contemporary. The new Corolla is slightly shorter and wider as compared to the 9th genration Corolla, giving it more sporty, stable and spacious feel.
The interior of the all New Corolla appear to be a lot more classier, plush with modern design and flowing curves.

Bajaj ordered to pay for false mileage claims, Hero Honda to focus on rural india

Bajaj ordered to pay for false mileage claims:

Auto giant Bajaj Auto has landed in trouble for its "misleading and deceptive" ads as a consumer court has asked it to compensate a scooter owner whose four-stroke scooter gave him an average of 34 km a litre as compared to the company's claims of 74 km a litre.
Holding the auto-major guilty of causing "mental agony and harassment," Justice Kapoor directed the company to pay Rs 15,000 to city resident Karan Pal Singh, the owner of the scooter.

I wonder if anyone has any complaints about XCD not delivering 109 kmpl. Or does it?

Electric two wheeler to become more cheaper

The prices of electric two-wheelers in India are likely come down by Rs 1,800 to Rs 2,400 after government’s decision to waive off 8% excise duty on them. Electric two-wheelers are priced at around Rs 20,000 and high-speed models at around Rs 36,000. This reduction in price will them competitive with the petrol two-wheelers.

Picture of YObyke YO smart

UK-based electric vehicle maker Ultra Motors’ Indian subsidiary Ultra Motors India’s director (marketing) Deba Goshal said:
“It will help make the electric vehicle viable and help the industry grow. We had been facing a pinch after the excise on petrol two-wheelers were brought down to 12% from 16% while there were no changes for the electric vehicles. The 12% difference with the petrol vehicles will make a sizeable difference and boost demand in the market.”
About 1.3 lakh electric vehicles were sold in the Indian market in FY08,and the market has been growing.
With top speeds around 25 to 30 kmph and a maximum range of about 60 km, these vehicles are restricted to travel shorter distances within the city. These limitations of low vehicle speed and travelling distance had hampered their growth.

Cng - Lpg version of Mahindra-Renault Logan

Mahindra-Renault will be introducing the CNG and LPG variants of the Logan in the next 3-4 months.
"We have had a great year of Logan, cornering about 12 per cent of market share in the 'C' segment. In the next 3-4 months, we will be launching the CNG and LPG variant of the car"
Mahindra-Renault's Chief Operating Officer Nalin Mehta told PTI.

The CNG and LPG variant of Logan would be on the platform of 1.6 litre petrol version, and will be costlier by about Rs 50,000. In the last fiscal, the company sold 25,984 units of Logan. Due to the increased input costs, especially that of steel, plastic and copper, the company had raised the prices of Logan, both petrol and diesel variants, between Rs 4,000-Rs 5,000.

Mahindra Renault Logan, thanks to its wide body, competitive pricing, better mileage and availability in all fuel options is one of the most preferred car to be used as taxi. Entry-level sedan like Logan helps taxi players to provide competitive services due to low operating costs as compared to high-end cars.

First Nanos roll out from Tata's Uttarakhand plant

The first two test units of the Tata Nano have just rolled out from a new assembly line at Tata Motors’ Uttarakhand plant that is now nearly ready, suggesting that commercial production of the small car will actually begin at Pantnagar nearly a month before it begins at Singur.

These are the first units of the small car to be actually made on the assembly line. Nano, the World's cheapest Car, will be subjected to extensive testing before trial production will begin, to be followed by commercial production by September.

Chauffeur driven ...... Bike!!!

At the unveiling ceremony at the 9th Auto Expo in New Delhi, Mr. Ratan N. Tata said:

“I observed families riding on two-wheelers – the father driving the scooter, his young kid standing in front of him, his wife seated behind him holding a little baby. It led me to wonder whether one could conceive of a safe, affordable, all-weather form of transport for such a family.
We are happy to present the People’s Car to India and we hope it brings the joy, pride and utility of owning a car to many families who need personal mobility.”
But the fact is, traffic conditions are becoming worst everyday, with no signs of improvement. Bikes are easy to maneuver in traffic, easy to park, hence ideal for getting from one place to other in a city like Mumbai. (Please note the Nano is yet to hit the streets.)

Yeah sounds weird and funny but that was the story last week in Midday. But to be honest, that was so much practical. On multiple instances in the past, I went for my bike keys instead of the car keys considering that I have to reach a certain location on time and I was already late. I am sure many would agree with the idea and it makes perfect sense.
The only reason I would prefer a car over a bike is because its a little bit safer, I get air conditioning in summer, protection from rain and most important my white shirt remains white and not turned into some shade of Grey when I reach the destination.

"Chaufer gaadi niklo"

Ironically as the poor and middle class are waiting for Nano the more privileged are probably realizing the benefits of the two wheelers.

Now I wonder if Mr Tata or Mr Bajaj would find something like this as a more practical solution:

Post your comments:-

Would you go for a CHauffer driven bike?
Will the situation become worse after launch of cars like Tata Nano.
